  2. Dear Higgins Family,

We miss and love Marj so much! She was our number one fan, her beautiful cards to us, her checking in, her caring nature and kindness. She would also support our beloved Tigers and Saints and would often put aside a news clipping for us to read. She also gave each of us our first footy scarf and beanie. Her cheeky comments would always keep us on the ball and she was always there for us, giving us recipes when we got married. She was like an Aussie grandma to two young people who had just started a new life in Australia.
Marj will be remembered in our hearts as someone who had such great fortitude and courage, she was a spiritual leader and her love for God overflowed. We thank her for always praying for us.

We wish the family comfort during this time and send our love.

on behalf of the Higgins family, thank you for the lovely tribute you have posted. I know mum was a great support to you both and helped you settle into Balwyn and made you true “footy Victorians”. The flowers from the cake you made for her 90th birthday were on the sideboard until she moved into Orchards. It was a very special event and your gift was a wonderful part of the event. Best wishes to you and your family.

    • Dear Libby,

on behalf of the whole family, thank you for the lovely tribute. You really were that “seventh child” in the family, joining us for crumpets for breakfast and games in the backyard. It was a testament to Mum and Dad’s love and service to all around them and the very inclusive and welcoming home mum was at the heart of. Mum really enjoyed your visits, especially at the “Australian Open time”. Thanks for loving her.

  27. In Marj, we have lost a dear friend of over 30 years. She was someone with whom we naturally “clicked.” She had a God-given insight into the needs of a couple in full-time ministry, and seemed to know when to offer encouragement, which she did in many practical ways. She never forgot our birthdays, and sent beautiful cards at Christmas, and from time to time, “Pastor appreciation” cards. When we moved to Thailand for five years in 2000, she regularly wrote to us, sending church bulletins, the ‘Baptist Witness,’ and local news. Our personal contacts increased when we returned to ministry at Balwyn in 2015. It was a precious privilege to sing hymns, pray with her, and give her communion in the closing days of her life.
Someone has written, “A friend is one of those people who walks into our lives and finds a home in our hearts.” Marj was one of those people, and we give thanks for the love and friendship she gave us.

What a difference it made having someone who knew and loved her speak and pray at the service. It was an honour to have Kay with us as well. Marj was always very upfront on being able to meet her Lord soon. She was ready and looking forward to seeing Him. Especially in the last year or so. She was a prayer warrior and at the same time a down to earth person who always looked out for others especially when in need. She was a wonderful member of our small group SALT. Which would meet every 2 weeks at Marcia Chaffer’s place. Always interested in our families and extended families. She was a great letter writer who would write a letter or note of encouragement to anyone at the right time. Lots of people from our church community valued her advice and prayers. For morning tea at church she would still make cake or other sweets even till recently before she went to “The Orchards”. She will be greatly missed.
